Episode #40-Teaching Your Children How to Stand Up for Themselves & Others

Parents, do you have confidence that your children will stand up for themselves and not allow others to bully and tease them?  Do you believe that they would stand up and speak up if they witnessed someone else being teased, mistreated or bullied?

Have you all discussed this?  Have you taught them and given them skills including: verbal skills and physical skills that will come to their minds quickly if they find themselves in these situations?

The examples I share with you today, you might think are CRAZY and inappropriate.  They might be the opposite of what you would want to teach your children.  I realize that.  But…I still want you to listen because I think and hope that by listening and then by thinking and pondering on these ideas, you will be able to determine what is best for your family.

Regardless of how you teach your children to stand up for themselves and others, one thing I know…IT HAS TO BE TAUGHT!  Please do not just assume that your child will do it or assume that they know how.

This requires purposeful parenting.  Listen and I’d love to know your thoughts afterwards!!

This was so, so good. I’m in tears. I love and genuinely appreciate your heart for others. As a mom to a 17-year-old son on the autism spectrum who has been severely bullied since elementary, I truly wish I could’ve heard this years ago. I did not teach this and wish I would have. I LOVE your podcasts. You are a gift. I heard you for the first time several years ago at the homeschool convention in Cincinnati, and I have been a huge fan of your work ever since. Your breakout sessions at the convention have always been priority for me to attend. Thank you for what you do.
